The monumental TV drama Zou xiang gonghe made a stir when aired by China Central Television in the spring of 2003. Because of its unconventional representation of the historically critical time-span 1890-1917, the TV drama sparked a heated discussion in the print media as well as in the internet, and was ultimately taken off the program.
