Book excerpt: An excellent companion for anyone on a tour following in the footsteps of St Paul around the Mediterranean. From reading the Acts of the apostles all my life, I realised I knew very little about the context and culture of the people St Paul reached out to through his missionary journeys with the good news of Jesus Christ. I've come back having discovered he was reaching out to the foundations of our western world civilisation, from it Pax Romana styled government to its conflict between theism and atheism that flowed out of the Acropolis in Athens. I feel excited about a new opportunity: Firstly, to see young adult Christians take this tour in order to grow in faith and leadership which is very much needed for the health of the church today. Secondly, think about exercising leadership on three levels as Paul did -to the individual, to the group or congregation and through institutions. And thirdly, to remember the persecuted church all over the world who faithfully follow in the footsteps on the early apostles. This booklet echoes the words of our fantastic tour guides, the wonderful "For Everyone" commentaries of Tom Wright and my own reflections: -Time travelling back 2,000 years to get closer than I ever thought possible to St Paul the apostle of Jesus Christ.-Understanding more about the inspiring, tragic and extraordinary story of the Christians living in the Roman empire in the first century.-Learning about the challenges of being Christ's ambassador for reconciliation and peace-making in a fallen world and discovering seeds of hope.
