Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rating Appeals: Heard Before the Court of Appeal, the Queen's Bench Division, the London Quarter Sessions and the House of Lords, During the Years 1891 1893 The Editor has endeavoured, in reporting some of the cases at Quarter Sessions, to indicate, in a note, the inference which may be drawn as to the principle adopted, but not expressed, by the Court. For the correctness of that inference, and for the notes generally, the Editor alone is responsible. To the names of the cases cited are added the dates of the decisions (a matter of great import ance in rating law), and in the Table of Cases Cited will be found a reference to the con temporary reports. It is perhaps too much to expect, or even to hope, that this Volume, which contains a mass of figures, will be absolutely free from errors. The Editor has found in his previous Volume mistakes which may be counted on the fingers of one hand. If this Volume prove to be as accurate, it will be in great measure due to the assistance courteously given by both lawyers and witnesses in many of the cases reported.
